Zak Krueger Gets Full Creative Freedom in New Resident Evil Adaptation
Constantin Film studio announced that the director of the new Resident Evil adaptation will be Zak Krueger — the director of the successful horror films The Instruments and Barbarian. The key condition of the collaboration: the director has been granted full creative freedom — he is not restricted by canon boundaries or required to follow previous adaptations.
As studio representative Berben noted, the team values Krueger’s authorial vision: “We gave him full carte blanche to do whatever he wants with this franchise.” It is emphasized that the upcoming film will differ significantly from what audiences are accustomed to associating with Resident Evil. The reason is the director’s individual style, as he intends to rethink the iconic story.
The project is positioned as a complete reboot. Unlike the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, where the creators tried to reproduce the game plots verbatim, and the action films in the style of Paul W. S. Anderson’s movies, the new version bets on a fresh perspective. The studio deliberately refuses to literally copy the games, prioritizing an original authorial interpretation.
