Canada has serious questions for ubisoft after the closure of its halifax studio

Negotiations between the CWA Canada union and Ubisoft over the closure of the Halifax studio have been unsuccessful. The union, which represents 61 of the 71 employees who were laid off, said Ubisoft did not provide any documentation proving the financial necessity of the closure and did not offer a plan for reemployment or improved severance terms.

Particular outrage was caused by the company's position regarding employees on parental leave, who, according to the union, were denied two months of severance pay.

Ubisoft postponed the discussion, promising to present its proposals only by the end of the week. The union also criticized the lack of advance notice of the closure and pointed out that Ubisoft had received nearly $1 billion in government subsidies in the form of tax breaks over the past five years. The company has not yet issued an official comment on the situation.
