Beaten Path, a tactical strategy game inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem, has been announced
The publisher Wales Interactive and the studio Peacebreak Studio announced that their turn-based strategic RPG Beaten Path — a project backed on Kickstarter — will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) in 2027.
Beaten Path places you in a world where fallen gods still cast long shadows and ancient machines tick away under ruined cities. You play as Pannu, joined by companions whose pasts tangle with the plot; the story leans on time as a motif, so expect loops and recovered memories to shape how events unfold rather than a straight-line narrative.
Combat runs on a tactical grid and nods to titles like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem, though it tries to twist those bones into its own shape. Battles reward thoughtful placement and exploiting terrain or elevation; character skills interact in ways that can open short-lived advantages or chain into bigger plays (e.g., setup moves that create follow-up windows).
Exploration isn’t just filler here — handcrafted locales change with weather and scene beats, and some encounters appear only under certain conditions, so pacing and curiosity matter. Wander off the beaten track and you might find story fragments that alter how you approach later fights.
Progression ties equipment choices to roles: swapping a dual-class set can flip a unit’s function, and professions are adjustable rather than fixed. You’ll also unlock cosmetics and mechanical tweaks — costumes, skills, stat bumps, etc. — that change both how a character looks and how they perform in skirmishes.
