In the coming months, Steam may release Minecraft and other Xbox studio hits
Minecraft could make its way to Steam, along with other games from Microsoft studios that are currently unavailable on the Valve store.
The GDC conference has already surveyed developers about AI usage and the scale of layoffs, but another important topic was the choice of key platforms. Most respondents expressed interest in developing future games for PC, while 40% were focused on PlayStation 5. Xbox Series, however, was less fortunate — the platform only interests about 20% of developers.
Corden reminded that the next generation of Xbox could become a PC with backward compatibility for console games. Against this backdrop, Microsoft's publishing strategy is also expected to change, especially considering the expanding Steam audience. And the journalist "heard" (likely from his sources) that some major games that never made it to Steam will appear on the Valve store in the coming months.
Unfortunately, Corden did not specify any particular titles. There are various speculations, but two options seem the most realistic. Potentially, the sandbox game Minecraft could be added to Steam, along with a number of Blizzard Entertainment games currently available only on Battle.Net, such as World of Warcraft or the StarCraft series.
What worries Corden is developers' attitude toward the Xbox brand. It belongs to Microsoft, which is an "incredibly unpopular" corporation. The journalist is also dissatisfied with the Microsoft Store's performance — the store hardly promotes games and even recommends products that have already been purchased.
