Arknights: Endfield Creators Explain Why the PayPal Payment System Failed
The launch of Arknights: Endfield encountered a serious technical failure, causing money to be deducted from some players without their knowledge. According to the publisher Hypergryph, the incident affected approximately 1,800 people, with the total amount of erroneous payments reaching around $80,000.
The studio explained that the cause was a desynchronization between the in-game payment system and PayPal. A total of 3,429 unauthorized transactions were recorded, including one exceeding $5,200.
The PayPal payment system was promptly disabled. All erroneous charges were reversed on the day the problem was discovered. Hypergryph has allowed affected players to keep the in-game items they received as a result of the failure. Re-enabling the payment method will only be possible after additional testing and the implementation of new protective measures.
