Creators of the visual novel Slay the Princess have sold one million copies of their horror game

Developer Black Tabby Games officially announced this week that the game Slay the Princess has exceeded one million copies sold. This milestone was reached following the release of The Pristine Cut edition on consoles and PC, marking an important moment for the studio.

In a message to fans, co-creators Tony Howard-Arias and Abby Howard openly shared what this achievement means to them, especially considering the genre’s reputation. “Visual novels are often underestimated and looked down upon in our industry,” the developers said, noting that reaching a million sales along with positive reviews from critics and viewers was something they “previously thought impossible.”

Slay the Princess, initially released on PC and later expanded to PlayStation and Xbox platforms, is a story-driven horror visual novel built around repeated deaths, branching choice paths, and reliable perspectives. You are tasked with killing a princess locked in a remote cabin, but every decision changes the plot and characters. The game is fully voiced and features multiple endings designed so that key moments can be replayed rather than starting over.

The announcement also served as a precursor to the studio's future plans. The penultimate chapter of Scarlet Hollow will release in 10 days. Black Tabby Games also announced upcoming products in collaboration with Fangamer, scheduled for late spring or early summer. Specific merchandise was not described, but the studio indicated that this is just one of several projects currently in development.
