Fresh PlayStation Patent Reveals Feature for Voicing News with Video Game Character Voices

A recent Sony patent has caught the attention of the internet. It is aimed at PlayStation users and an even deeper integration of video games into daily life.

The document describes a feature involving news "podcasts" that will be voiced by game characters using artificial intelligence. Moreover, these won't be pre-recorded clips. The system will analyze the gamer's preferences and select news related to games they are interested in. The character acting as the podcast "host" will also be borrowed from a game that the specific user has already played.

The usage scenario is as follows: a player turns on the console and sees a notification on the main screen about the availability of a fresh podcast. Preferences can be set in advance. For example, to include recommendations for games not in the user's library.

According to Sony, there is currently no high-quality implementation of such a system.

The patent describes some interesting features of AI-powered podcasts. For instance, a single episode could feature several characters from different games interacting with each other. Regarding data, the AI will analyze the gamer's recent games, friends list, and other sources.

Filing a patent does not guarantee the feature will be implemented. However, Sony has at least been testing such capabilities for integrating AI into the PlayStation ecosystem.

By the way, a patent for a buttonless gamepad with touch controls was also recently discovered.
