Anne Hathaway stated that she plans to push for a release of "The Princess Diaries 3". She’s expressed a clear wish to return to Genovia, yet a surprise call to film the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" swallowed up her schedule — so handling both projects at once wasn’t realistic.

"We are constantly working on it. The sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada' came unexpectedly and drew all the attention to itself, making it impossible to focus on both projects at the same time."

Hathaway said she’d like the trilogy’s third chapter to be next on her plate. Writers are drafting the screenplay now, though the project hasn’t received an official go-ahead (i.e., no formal greenlight yet).

The director’s chair is expected to be handled by Adele Lim, known for her work on the "Crazy Rich Asians" script.

Plot specifics remain under wraps. For bkgd., in the first film Mia — an ordinary schoolgirl — discovers she’s heir to the Genovian throne, which sets everything in motion.
