Animal Crossing: New Horizons received an unexpected patch in honor of the series' 25th anniversary
Nintendo quietly pushed out a surprise update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons tied to the franchise's 25th. Patch v3.0.2 is live on both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2; its contents are small but symbolic.
The headline addition is the Leaf Statue — a leaf-shaped decorative item given to every player. You’ll find it in your character’s in-house mailbox. The package includes a thank-you note bearing an N64-style stamp; place the statue and it glows, a cozy keepsake rather than something that changes how you play.
There’s also a little nod to the series’ beginnings: Animal Forest (Japan, Apr 14, 2001 on the N64) and the later GameCube expansion that helped the game reach more people. It’s more of a wink than an encyclopedic recap.
Beyond that, the patch brings routine bug fixes and technical tweaks. It’s modest — and fwiw, those tiny touches can mean a lot to longtime players: a few will barely notice, while others will grin at the reminder.
