Unofficial Native PC Version of the Original Silent Hill Released
Modder SlickAmogus has released the first public build of an unofficial native PC port of the original Silent Hill (PSX, 1999). No emulator required—this is a straight PC executable you can run on a modern rig.
This initial public version lets you play the entire game from start to finish. The 3D world renders as intended: textures load, fog behaves, and particle effects appear where they should. Many level elements—trees and buildings, street lamps and terrain—look correct; geometry is mostly faithful to the original.
Player control has seen a lot of attention. Walking and running are tied to proper collision detection, so movement feels consistent; wall collisions usually behave as expected. Floor height checks and stair transitions are working as well, which helps traversal feel less brittle on PC.
Combat is functional. Firearms (pistol, hunting rifle, shotgun) operate; melee hits land; several character animations—struggles, deaths, grab sequences—play back in ways that match the source. That said, not everything is nailed down yet.
Known problems include the chainsaw and jackhammer, which still misbehave. A few boss visual effects need polishing, sound can loop oddly at times, and some final cutscenes glitch. In short: not perfect, but perfectly playable end-to-end.
The PC build supports high resolutions, high refresh rates and unlimited fps (so you can crank it if your GPU/CPU allow).
