AMD reached a market capitalization of one trillion dollars, surpassing Intel
AMD has become the fourth American chip manufacturing company to surpass a $1 trillion market capitalization, joining Broadcom, Micron and Nvidia in that group. After beginning 2026 at $223.47 per share and slipping below $200 several times, AMD’s stock began a steady climb from April and is trading at $607.24 a share at the time of writing — a large gain for investors who bought at the start of the year. This surge pushed AMD into the exclusive club of semiconductor firms with trillion-dollar valuations.
Nvidia first crossed the $1 trillion mark in May 2023 and has continued to grow since, driven largely by demand tied to artificial intelligence. Nvidia’s market capitalization currently stands at $5.48 trillion, the highest of any company worldwide. For comparison, Apple’s valuation is about $4.94 trillion, Google is at $4.29 trillion, and Microsoft is valued at $3.69 trillion.
Other chipmakers also saw notable moves early in the week: Intel’s shares jumped more than 12% in a single day, Qualcomm rose almost 8.3%, and Broadcom was up 1.22% at the time of publication. Intel’s stock price has increased by 208% since the beginning of the year, although its market capitalization is $643.5 billion — still well below AMD’s valuation.
Last month AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company expects to double sales in its data center segment in 2027, a projection that arrived as AMD recovered from stock declines in July and August. Like many competitors, AMD has benefited from the ongoing AI boom, though industry observers note that demand for AI hardware will eventually taper. AMD’s broader business mix gives it additional revenue streams to rely on if AI-related demand softens, unlike firms that have concentrated almost exclusively on AI technologies.
