Aliens, Totalitarianism, Rock 'n' Roll — Sonic Terror with Turn-Based Combat Announced

Sonic Terror has been announced — a tactical RPG about a rock band fighting aliens in a totalitarian republic. The debut trailer showcases the future game's style, as well as gameplay footage featuring turn-based battles and location exploration.

The events of Sonic Terror unfold in 1984 — the government of an unnamed "Republic" enters into a symbiosis with an alien parasite to control the population. However, the threat begins to spread throughout the country. Strangely enough, music can stop the infection — and that's exactly what the last surviving rock band, which managed to survive amidst persecution and bans, will do.

Players will develop the band: manage the musicians' personalities, compose new songs, and make decisions that will affect the group in the future. Sources of inspiration can be, for example, a beautiful sunset or an old cassette. Alas, the life of the trio of punks is not limited to creativity alone — they need to take care of themselves, sleep, and eat to stay in good spirits.

Sonic Terror also places special emphasis on combat. Turn-based tactical battles against parasites are accompanied by an adaptive soundtrack — it "builds up" with successful hits and "breaks down" when characters are wounded. Instruments and equipment can also be upgraded using found parts and accessories.

Sonic Terror is being developed by the independent studio Book Burner Games. It was founded by Pyotr Salnikov — a well-known game journalist, co-founder of the Disgusting Men podcast, and former managing editor of Kanobu.
