A public jailbreak for the PlayStation 5 has been released.

Developer Nathan Fargo has published a jailbreak for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro under the name Relapse, making it available on GitHub. The exploit breaks into the console's kernel, which in turn enables Homebrew and other tools, along with access to third-party software and capabilities such as running game dumps/FPKG on firmware versions that support it.

Speed is a major difference from the earlier public method P2JB, which could take roughly 50 minutes or longer on older firmware. Early users of Relapse report launch times measured in seconds. That matters because the jailbreak must be triggered again after each reboot of the console.

Firmware 7.00 through 13.60 is covered by Relapse. Owners on 13.60 have a particular reason to care: until Relapse arrived, that version had no full public jailbreak. Those who want to keep the option of cracking their console are advised to turn off automatic updates and avoid upgrading to newer firmware. Relapse does not currently support version 14.00, which was released in September 2026.

Full public Linux support is likewise not yet available as of 13.60; the PS5 Developer Wiki lists it as in development. Linux would demand deeper control over the system, including cracking the hypervisor.
