Call of Duty Developers May Be Working on an Unannounced Action RPG

The studio Sledgehammer Games, closely associated with the Call of Duty series, is reportedly working on an unannounced action RPG. This information surfaced thanks to a LinkedIn profile of the former senior creative director of the studio, Ben Vanat.

Vanat worked at Sledgehammer since 2019 and left his position as senior creative director in September 2025. In his resume, he noted involvement in a project in the action RPG genre — this was noticed by active community members tracking leaks and indirect evidence about new games.

Currently, there are lively discussions among fans: will this be a reimagining of Call of Duty in action RPG format or a completely new game? On one hand, the industry shows steady interest in extraction shooters and incorporating RPG elements into traditional shooters. On the other hand, Sledgehammer Games, with its extensive experience working on large-scale action games, is quite capable of taking a bold step into uncharted territory.

So far, neither Sledgehammer Games nor the publisher have given official comments regarding the possible project.
